Engage Sustainably – one of three new projects at Idériket
On Wednesday, May 7, the board of Leader Idériket Umeåregionen 2030 approved three new projects in the Umeå region. One of these was the project Engage Sustainably.
With a budget of approximately SEK 28 million between 2023 - 2027, the rural areas of the Umeå region will be developed innovatively with projects that are permeated with sustainability, inclusion, new thinking and smart solutions.
The projects that were approved by the board must, before final start approval, also go through processing by the Swedish Board of Agriculture before it is completely green light to start.

The umbrella project Start a Business
In the spring of 2026, it will, thanks to this umbrella project, be possible for individuals to apply for micro-support to start a business. This can be private individuals, or sole proprietorships wanting to change to a limited company, as well as associations wanting to seek support to become an economic association.
The umbrella project Start a Business is an initiative towards a specific indicator in the Idériket Umeåregionen 2030 strategy.
Action area 3
Engage sustainably – rural areas in collaboration
The project aims to strengthen the association life in the rural areas of the Umeå region by developing a collaboration forum with seven pilot rural areas for exchange and inspiration. The rural areas and their activities will also be made visible in innovative ways together with young people.

The umbrella project Micro Grants for Reduced Climate Impact
In the spring of 2026, it will, thanks to this umbrella project, be possible for associations, businesses, and the public sector to apply for micro-support to implement measures aimed at reducing climate impact. This can involve test beds, investments, or expanded initiatives to better manage environmental goals.
