3 projects and 2 feasibility studies approved!

Bragging news with faith in the future

The summer begins with several new projects

On Monday, June 10, the board of Leader Idériket Umeåregionen 2030 approved a total of 3 new projects and 2 preliminary studies. These will, in various ways, enrich the rural areas of the Umeå region and create more attractive, sustainable, and inspiring places locally, regionally, nationally, and transnationally!

With a budget of approximately SEK 28 million between 2023 - 2027, the rural areas of the Umeå region will be developed innovatively with projects that are permeated with sustainability, inclusion, new thinking and smart solutions.

The projects that were approved on June 10 by the board must, before the final start notice, also go through processing by the Swedish Board of Agriculture before it is completely green light to start.

The 3 projects and the 2 preliminary studies that were approved are as follows:

Focus area 1

Sustainable culture Holmön – The song festival and beyond
With the project Sustainable culture Holmön – the song festival and beyond! Holmön's development forum aims to create long-term sustainable, anchored, and well-thought-out cultural events on the island of Holmön in the Northern Quark. In the summer of 2025, the association Holmön's development forum will organize the island's famous song festival for the first time – and with this project, the association wants to further develop the song festival to make it more sustainable and nourishing for the island. They also want to carry out two new ”sibling events” in April and September, as a way to extend the island's tourist season. Through this, the project ensures that Holmön has a richer cultural life while strengthening the island as a sustainable destination.
Historical hiking trail through Överrödå
The project aims to restore an old road embankment in the Överrödå cultural environment and create a historical hiking trail in the river landscape that enhances the quality of life for residents, increases the attractiveness of moving to Överrödå, and becomes a new destination for recreation for all age groups.
New meeting places for children and youth in Brån and Stärkesmark
The project will strengthen civil society by developing innovative and attractive meeting places for children and youth linked to the community houses and surroundings in Brån and Stärkesmark in Vännäs municipality.
Children and youth in the villages will, in a joint process, come up with ideas together with the School of Architecture on how they can create new meeting places based on the perspectives and needs of children and youth. 4 of the ideas that are developed will be realized and then built in wood by students from the School of Architecture and supervisors participating in the project.

The 2 preliminary studies that were approved are as follows:

Cultural node Robertsfors
The preliminary study aims to explore the possibilities of gathering different sectors within a community to jointly support a cultural meeting place.
The site will function as a meeting place, destination, and purchaser of free culture to enrich the local area of Robertsfors. The preliminary study will have a particular focus on the industrial area in Robertsfors as a potential site for cultural activities.

Building community in Umeå's countryside and Robertsfors municipality
The preliminary study aims to inform about building communities and primarily investigate
the conditions in four villages to build together in the countryside. They want to use this preliminary study to explore the possibilities and conditions to start a home factory and/or
a building community in the countryside in Umeå municipality, and within Robertsfors municipality. They will specifically investigate the conditions in four villages. Two within Robertsfors municipality and two in the countryside around Umeå. It may also involve more villages depending on interest and spread during the preliminary study's implementation.
